As part of the forum on civil society’s requirements for peace, representatives of four institutions offer their perspectives on the issue of reconciliation and the effects that 7 October and the war in Gaza have had on their work. Avital Benshalom provides an insight into everyday life at the Jewish-Arab Hagar primary school in Be’er Sheva before and after 7 October.

Avital Benshalom has been the Principal of Hagar Bilingual School in Be’er Sheva, Israel for the last 6 years. She leads the largest Jewish Arab community in the Negev desert in southern Israel. She focuses on bilingual and binational education in the context of divided societies, peace education and multicultural education.
